Why I Built Cubely

Cubely was born out of frustration with big-tech corporations scanning, monetizing, and selling personal data without accountability. As artificial intelligence models began aggressively scraping private information for training, basic privacy was no longer enough. I wanted complete control over my digital life, along with a full set of practical features.

I needed a reliable way to stay connected with family, manage my calendar, keep track of notes, and set daily tasks. That search led me to SmarterMail, which offered all of those essentials plus built-in cloud file storage, WebRTC video meetings, and collaborative tools.

Around the same time, a hosting provider I trust launched a managed mail offering backed by SmarterMail. The timing was perfect and the infrastructure was rock-solid. Their setup includes excellent, regularly updated anti-spam tools that routinely outperform traditional filters like SpamExperts, catching unwanted messages long before they ever reach your inbox.

The service was originally named CubeMail, but I eventually settled on Cubely because it feels both playful and professional. More importantly, when it comes to email, shorter is always better. Nobody wants to type out a long domain name every time they sign up for a service, send a message, or read their address out loud over the phone. With the right features, security, and name finally in place, Cubely officially became a reality.
